PLAY WITHOUT A FIXED TEAM
CS2 GATHERS – 2V2 AND 5V5
A gather is an organised pickup match with individual registration. Arena66 fills the lobby, reserves a server, draws teams randomly and records the result and statistics.
What is a Counter-Strike gather?
Players join one at a time until the lobby is full, then Arena66 divides them into two teams. You do not need an existing five-player roster.
Gathers provide more structure than matchmaking and build a documented competitive history.
2v2 Wingman and 5v5
Wingman needs four players and uses a dedicated Wingman map pool. Competitive 5v5 uses ten players and the classic CS2 format.
Public teams are drawn randomly while parties stay together. Arena Rating does not control the team draw. Everyone starts at 1000, and Private Friend Gathers use self-selected teams without rating changes.
How to join
You need an active account, confirmed email and verified SteamID64. Open Gathers, choose a lobby with space and register.
When the lobby is full, the creator can start automatic random team drawing and server preparation.
Live lobby, map vote and Wingman start
The player list, ready state, map votes, teams and match status are checked automatically every second. Changed lobby content loads without a full page refresh, preserving your scroll position when you select READY or vote for a map.
A 2v2 Gather sends Wingman mode, two players per team and two required ready players per team to MatchZy. The selected map therefore loads with Wingman rules, and four ready players are enough to start. The match remains waiting during server preparation and becomes LIVE only when MatchZy actually goes live.
Servers and results
Use a compatible personal server or reserve an available Arena66 shared server. The complete console command receives its own full-width line, with the IP address, port, password and CONNECT TO SERVER arranged below it.
Arena66 supplies the same password to MatchZy and removes it when the match ends. The server returns to AVAILABLE, while the archive, Arena Rating, achievements and supported statistics update automatically.
Ready and connection deadlines
A full lobby displays a 1-minute ready countdown. Players who do not confirm are removed and their slots reopen without cancelling the Gather. Two missed checks in a row cause a 30-minute Gather timeout.
Server preparation then starts a 5-minute connection window. If that deadline expires, the Gather is cancelled, connected players are removed, MatchZy is ended through css_endmatch and the server returns to AVAILABLE.
Administration of incomplete Gathers
Administrators can end an open or ready lobby before its match goes live. Arena66 notifies participants, cancels any preparation and releases the reserved server.
An incomplete lobby with no match can also be deleted permanently. Deletion requires an administrator role, cannot be undone and is recorded in the administration audit log.
Server preflight before the lobby opens
Arena66 performs a fresh direct preflight of the selected server before storing the Gather. This prevents a lobby from starting with a broken password flow, outdated CS2 or missing server components.
Only servers with recent, completely healthy status can be reserved. Monitoring continues while the platform is running.
Clear server access and reliable Wingman start
The MATCH SERVER card gives the console command one full-width line, with the IP address, port, match password and direct connection arranged below it.
After .stay or .switch, Arena66 automatically sends the command that ends Wingman warmup. If the entire live match becomes empty, a 30-second reconnect window begins before automatic cancellation and server release.
Live feed and verified match statistics
MatchZy supplies round scores, the final map result and cumulative player totals after every round. Arena66 Live 0.5.1 supplies detailed kill events containing the killer, victim, weapon and headshot.
BO1 Gathers retain the map round score instead of the 1–0 or 0–1 series score. Player profiles and the match page use MatchZy totals for kills, deaths, assists, headshots, damage and ADR.
Start check and correct transition into the match
Before the lobby opens, Arena66 continuously checks the name, Gather type, format, maps, server and private access. START GATHER is prominent, and all missing choices are listed before submission.
Once everyone is connected, the knife phase starts or the first scored round is recorded, the connection deadline ends automatically. Ready status is replaced by the correct match status and cannot cancel a match already in progress.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions and answers
Can I join without SteamID64?+
No. A verified SteamID64 is required for identity and accurate statistics.
Who chooses the teams?+
Arena66 draws public teams randomly while keeping parties together. Arena Rating does not control the draw. Private Friend Gather players choose their own teams.
How do I gain or lose Arena Rating?+
Rated wins add points and losses remove points. Beating stronger opposition gives more, while losing to weaker opposition costs more. Individual statistics and sportsmanship do not affect rating.
What happens if not everyone confirms ready or connects?+
After the ready deadline, only players who did not select READY are removed and the lobby reopens. After the server connection deadline, the Gather is cancelled, players are notified and the server is released.
Where do I find the match IP address and password?+
Open the Gather or match page when the match is ready. The connection card is visible to registered players, the organiser, server owner and administrators.
How do I find my leaderboard position?+
Open Arena Gather Rating while signed in. Arena66 selects the correct page and scrolls to your position. Each page displays up to 100 players.
What achievements can I unlock?+
Profiles contain 100 permanent achievements across results, combat statistics, rating and objective play. Progress comes automatically from recorded match data.
Must I refresh the lobby or map vote?+
No. Arena66 updates the changed part of the lobby every second without a full page load and preserves your scroll position.
Why does Wingman need only four ready players?+
Arena66 explicitly sends a Wingman setup to MatchZy with two players and two required ready players per team.
Do I need to rent a server?+
Only if no shared Arena66 server is available and you want to create the gather.
Can an administrator remove a Gather that never fills?+
Yes. END cancels it and releases the server. DELETE permanently removes an incomplete lobby when no match exists.
Can a Gather start while MatchZy or Arena66 Live is not loaded?+
No. The server is blocked before the lobby is created and reopens only after the complete preflight passes.
What do we enter after the knife round?+
A player on the winning team enters .stay to keep sides or .switch to swap. Three “LIVE!” lines are MatchZy’s single start marker shown in three colours.
What happens if everyone leaves a live match?+
Arena66 waits 30 seconds for a reconnect. If nobody returns, the Gather is cancelled, MatchZy ends and the server becomes available.
Which name does the server use after automatic cancellation?+
Arena66 removes the match password and restores the name registered on the server card before marking the server available.
Why must Arena66 Live be updated to 0.5.1?+
Version 0.5.1 explicitly registers CounterStrikeSharp game events. This fixes installations where 0.5.0 retrieved the assignment but did not deliver kills, damage, connections or round events.
Can the five-minute deadline continue after the knife round begins?+
No. Arena66 combines connection events, RCON status and MatchZy start events to end the deadline before the knife phase or live match continues.
